Job Description:
Schedule: Various shift schedule and hours (minimum 8 hour per pay period)
Location: 2855 North Orange Ave, Orlando, FL
Training schedule: 8 to 12 weeks
Prepares, assigns, and delivers pathology slides from histology and cytology laboratories to pathologists. Coordinates and schedules autopsy procedures as needed. Assists with clinical specimen collection and processing activities. Receives, identifies, accessions, processes, batches, and transports specimens in-house and to offsite locations for pathology services. Fulfills clerical duties, including answering phones, data entry, and document filing. Completes repairs and preventive maintenance on equipment promptly and accurately, including documentation, with minimal backlog. Maintains, cleans, and disinfects laboratory equipment. Performs materials management duties, such as maintaining supply inventories and transporting equipment/supplies. Follows appropriate safety policies, including the use of PPE, handwashing, and hazardous chemical handling. Demonstrates understanding and adherence to the Chemical Hygiene plan and Infection Control policies. Transports hazardous waste from the point of generation to a designated secure storage area, completing required training for proper handling and transport. Stays current on all written or electronic communication and accepts accountability for knowledge attainment. Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: • Up-to-date knowledge of laboratory instrument management [Required]
• Ability to interact in a team environment, promoting a collaborative environment [Required]
• Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures in the health care industry [Required]
• Ability to communicate appropriately and effectively with patients and their family, hospital staff, nurses, physicians, and other health care professionals [Required]
• Up-to-date knowledge of specimen fixatives and container types [Required]
• Up-to-date knowledge of pathology laboratory tests and ordering processes [Required]
• Ability to process pathology specimens with appropriate use of hospital and laboratory information systems [Required]
• Ability to evaluate collected specimens for volume, collection containers, and related measures [Required]
• Ability to accession specimens, evaluate samples for proper submission, and document issues [Required]
• Ability to track and restock inventory, as appropriate [Required]
• Must be able to read, write and speak conversational English [Required]
• Basic computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office [Required]
• Knowledge of medical terminology [Preferred]
• Completion of a phlebotomy training program [Preferred]
Education: • High School Grad or Equiv [Required]
