The Behavioral Health Screener's primary role is to provide psychiatric emergency screening in BSCH Emergency Department requesting or requiring psychiatric evaluation. The Screener is also responsible for obtaining insurance approval for inpatient behavioral health treatment, making sure that correct legal papers are completed and prepare other documentation as necessary.
Responsibilities:
Maintains administrative records related to emergency evaluations.
Works in close collaboration with ED physician and other staff members, psychiatrist on-call, and Behavioral Health inpatient units.
Frequent contacts with law enforcement personnel, EMS, BSCH security, ED RN staff, and family members.
Assist psychiatrist in addressing psychiatrist consult in medical floors that include initial screening and follow-up.
Works closely with the case manager in discharge planning and making sure that patient receives proper psychiatric care.
Assists Mental Health Unit in their daily activities based on their availability.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications/Requirements:
Experience:
Prior Behavior Health screening experience preferred.
Education:
Master's Degree from an accredited school of social work or mental health counseling required.
Licenses / Certifications:
Possession of a valid license and current registration, issued by the New York State Education Department, as a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Mental Health Counselor or a limited permit in Social Work or Mental Health Counselor required.
