The Lab Assistant has knowledge of laboratory practices, specimen integrity & stability, federal and state requirements for laboratory operations, and applicable accreditation standards. Ability to operate laboratory centrifuges, perform a variety of blood collection techniques including venous and capillary collections.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
?Receives specimens, place orders, add test, delete test, spin down, separate and distribute specimens to the proper departments.
?Prepares specimen to send to reference labs.
?Answers telephone calls from unit Nurses, Internal/External Physicians, and their concerns regarding specimen problems.
?Complete all duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
Experience: 1 years of phlebotomy experience preferred.
Education: High-school diploma or equivalent. Bachelor degree in Business or IT related field preferred.
Licenses / Certifications:
NHA, ASCP, or equivalent certification in lieu of experience required.
