Position Summary: Direct and coordinate the clinical and management activities of units/clinics served by Behavioral Health Nurse Practitioners and/or Psychologist and Clinical Counselors in order to provide quality patient care in a collaborative manner. Actively supports programs and services that are in line with long-range strategic objectives. Support education and research in conjunction with Unit/Clinic Medical Director. Ensure adherence to hospitals, regulatory and departmental policies and procedures. Patient care assignment may include pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric age groups.
Detailed responsibilities: * BUDGET - Develop and administer the division's annual budget; monitor and approve expenditures in collaboration with the executive director of behavioral health finance. * COMMITTEES AND MEETINGS - Attend technical and administrative meetings; participate in committee functions; participate in hospital-wide activities and committees within the scope of this position or as directed * DEVELOPMENT - Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, reading current literature, attending in-services, meetings and workshops * DOCUMENTATION - Provide accurate documentation of patient care, document orders, directives, procedures and patient responses in the medical record and communicate them to other members of the health care team; maintain accurate, legible and confidential records * EDUCATION - Guide, teach, support and serve as a clinical resource nursing and medical staff * EDUCATION - Provide and coordinate clinical learning experience for staff; ensure patient education * LIAISON - Act as liaison as necessary between physicians, staff, patients, families, and other departments to promote and facilitate communication, problem solving, decision-making, crisis intervention, resource utilization, and conflict management * MANAGE - Interview applicants, hire, train, supervise, evaluate, counsel, discipline and terminate departmental personnel * PATIENT CARE - Assess, diagnose and develop treatment plans; implement treatment, follow-up and evaluate patient within the scope of practice protocols as outlined by state statute * PATIENT CARE - Evaluate and revise intervention care/treatment plan with patient, family and supervising provider as necessary to achieve improved health * PATIENT CARE - Provide education for patients and/or families about preventative care, medical issues and use of the prescribed medical treatment * PATIENT CARE - Work as a team member with medical/nursing/counseling staff to provide comprehensive care and promote continuity of care * RECORDS - Maintain departmental reports and records; collect statistical data for administrative and regulatory purposes * RESEARCH - Support research by conducting or participating in research studies; incorporate findings in clinical practice * STANDARDS - Establish specific standards and objectives for clinical departments; ensure implementation of and compliance with standards, objectives and operating policies and procedures * SUPERVISION - Direct APRNs, Physician Assistants and/or Psychologists, Clinical Counselors and Optometrists in accordance with Hospitals Policies and Procedures * SUPERVISION - Plan, coordinate and direct activities of supervisory, technical professional and support staff; conduct staff meetings * PATIENT SAFETY 1 - Follow patient safety-related policies, procedures and protocols * PATIENT SAFETY 2 - Demonstrate proactive approach to patient safety by seeking opportunities to improve patient safety through questioning of current policies and processes * PATIENT SAFETY 3 - Identify and report/correct environmental conditions and/or situations that may put a patient at undue risk * PATIENT SAFETY 4 - Report potential or actual patient safety concerns, medical errors and/or near misses in a timely manner * PATIENT SAFETY 5 - Encourage patients to actively participate in their own care by asking questions and reporting treatment or situations that they don't understand or may "not seem right"
Qualifications
Education: Essential: * Master's Degree Education specialization: Essential: * Nursing or Doctorate in Psychology, Counseling, Clin Psych
Experience: Essential: 1 year psychiatric experienceCompletion of the Hospitals approved training program with in six months of assignment
Nonessential: Bilingual English, Spanish, Keres, Tewa, Tiwa, Towa, Zuni, or Navajo3 years directly related experience
Credentials: Essential: * CPR for Healthcare/BLS Prov or Prof Rescuers w/in 30 days * New Mexico Licensed APRN or Psychologist
Physical Conditions: Medium Work: Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
