The Clerk/Phlebotomist performs various duties under the supervision of medical technologists/medical laboratory technicians.Â Job duties include:Â Phlebotomy:Â Perform phlebotomy procedures such as venipunctures, capillary sticks, heel sticks, blood culture collections, and bleeding times in a prompt, accurate, and reliable manner according to established hospital and departmental policies and procedures.Â Specimen Accessioning:Â Accurately and completely accession specimens into the laboratory information system, accurately label specimens and distribute to appropriate section for testing.Â Referencing Specimens:Â Send specimen to outside laboratories, ensuring accurate completion of requisitions slips and safe packaging of the specimen.Â Reconciled reference lab billing statements.Â Inventory Control:Â Maintain collection area; inventory and stock supplies with assistance of techs as needed.Â Reception/Clerical Duties:Â receive and process patients for testing using good customer service skills; register patients and/or specimens following established Admitting policies and procedures; provide appropriate documentation for completion of patientâ€™s medical record; accurately file reports and requisitions; answer telephone, handling inquiries appropriately using good customer service skills; assist in other duties as assigned.Â Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement:Â Participate in activities to support the hospital in meeting JCAHO and CAP accreditation standards while adhering to billing compliance regulations.Â Specimen Testing:Â Set up cultures.
A.Â Â Licensure/Certification/Registration:
Â Â Â Â Â Preferred:Â Nationally recognized certification
Â Â Â Â Â Minimum: Previous experience or completion of phlebotomy training program
B.Â Â Education:Â Â Â Â Â Â Minimum of high school diploma or GED
C.Â Â Experience:Â Â Â Â Â None required, but previous experience or formal phlebotomy training program preferred.
