Job Summary:

Provide technical training and assistance to staff concerning payroll and Kronos entries and related functions; respond to inquiries, resolve issues and provide detailed and technical information concerning related standards, requirements, calculations, deductions, taxes, benefits, data, laws, regulations, policies and procedures

Responsibilities:

• Verifies and enters data for voluntary payroll deductions such as, deferred compensation plans, NYS retirement changes, and tax forms

• Processes all other voluntary payroll deductions

• Processes and responds to inquiries regarding garnishments, child support orders, tax deductions, etc.

• Reviews and processes payroll related documents, to include Kronos historical edits

• Responds to departmental and other inquiries regarding payroll/Kronos related matters, routes complex issues to supervisor for direction or resolution.

• Responds to employment verifications as required

• Reviews and calculates retroactive payments and overpayments

• Processes all retirement applications, including verifying and certifying employee salary and service, processing loan deductions through the retirement system, and responding to inquiries

• Reviews and responds to accrual inquiries according to established policies and procedures

• Manages processes and responds to inquiries regarding direct deposit of net pay

• Responds to departmental inquiries regarding timekeeping errors and makes arrangements for the processing and issuing of checks as required

• Processes lump sum payments in accordance with established policies and procedures

Experience:

High school or equivalency diploma and four years of payroll clerk experience, two years of which the primary function of the position was analyzing payroll data and processing complex calculations for at least 150 employees. FPC or CPP certification a plus.

Education:

Satisfactory completion of 30 credits* may be substituted on a year for year basis for the general clerical experience. There is no substitution for the two years of specialized experience.
