Position Summary: The Referral Coordinator is responsible for expediting the administrative requirements for the Participant referrals in the clinic, ensuring that appropriate referrals are made to participating providers. . The Referral Coordinator acts as a resource regarding referrals and insurance plans guidelines. The Referral Coordinator directly supports authorizations via contracting with provider offices. This is an intermediate level, staff position working in a clinic with multiple providers and support staff. Work situations require an ability to interpret medical guidelines, benefits, policies and procedures, in support of their objective to expedite the referral process. This position involves interaction with the patient and professionals at times under stressful circumstances, which requires tact, good judgment, discretion, good public relations and organization skills. Knowledge of all department functions and various insurance plan provisions is essential in providing quick and accurate referrals within the MultiCare Health System. This position requires extensive interaction with external customers to include other physician offices, insurance plans, and patients. Internal contacts include the nursing staff, providers, interdisciplinary team members account representatives, etc.
Minimum Requirements: Two years experience working in a medical setting or insurance company Experience in managed care desired Experience with CPT and ICD-9 coding, preferred
Education/Licenses/Certifications: High school graduate or equivalent preferred
