The Minneapolis VA Health Care System seeks a full time physician to serve as Chief of Staff (COS). The COS serves as a member of the senior executive leadership team providing administrative, clinical and programmatic leadership. In addition to making clinical decisions, the Chief of Staff participates in organizational planning to achieve the mission and vision of the Medical Center. This is accomplished through chairmanship of the Executive Committee of the Medical Staff, credentialing and privileging, and close coordination with directors of the health care system's eight patient service lines (also referred to as Integrated Care Communities). Management-The position will provide operational oversight of the areas noted above. Significant duties will include overseeing major personnel actions, equipment and space planning, budgetary decision-making and oversight, championing patient safety and other continuous improvement efforts, and providing the strategic leadership needed to foster continued excellence and growth for our clinical and academic programs. Academic Mission-The Chief of Staff is responsible for overseeing and building the health care system's academic mission and strengthening ties with the University of Minnesota Medical School and its teaching and research enterprise. Cross Service Line/VISN Coordination-The Chief of Staff will have strong working relationships with the leaders of all service lines (also known as integrated care communities) and administrative departments. S/he will be proactive in anticipating and addressing issues of concern to departmental and service line leaders and setting and meeting strategic priorities. Planning and coordinating with other VISN 23 sites will also be a component of the Chief of Staff's duties. Executive Team Membership-The Chief of Staff is a crucial member of the facility's executive leadership team. S/he will work in concert with the Medical Center Director, Associate Director, Nurse Executive and Chief Patient Experience Officer to position the health care system for the future. The successful candidate is board certified by a member board of the American Board of Medical Specialties, has substantial clinical and administrative experience in a tertiary care academic medical setting such as leading a major program or department, and possesses academic credentials to qualify for appointment at the associate or full professor level at the University of Minnesota Medical School.
