The Outpatient Observation Unit at Fairview Ridges Hospital in Burnsville, MN is looking for a Patient Care Supervisor!
This unit cares for adult patients with a wide range of medical and surgical needs. The unit is protocol driven serving medical and post-procedural/post-surgical patients including but not limited to conditions such as chest pain, syncope, renal colic, toxicology exposure, vertigo, DVT, stroke, gastroenteritis, hysterectomy, TURP, mastectomy and heart catheterizations. This 28 bed unit is fast-paced with an average length of patient stay around 28 hours, accommodating Outpatient Observation, Inpatient and Outpatient Surgical patients and is equipped with remote telemetry to closely monitor cardiac patients. The unit is continuously focused on evaluating processes to improve quality of care, decrease length of stay by facilitating quick discharges and efficient patient flow.
This leadership position works 48 hours in two weeks, on the D/E/N shift, 8 hour shifts and is benefit eligible
This position reports to the Nurse Manager of hte Observation Unit

The Patient Care Supervisor (PCS) aids in promoting the practice of professional nursing as well as the development and utilization of resources. The PCS works cooperatively with the Nurse Manager, administration, physicians, staff and customers of the M Health Fairview system to provide services and consistently meet and exceed expectations of the people we serve. The PCS participates in aspects of budgeting, performance management and human resources matters, including recruitment and the administration of disciplinary measures. The PCS assists in implementing and supporting safety protocols and regulations ensuring compliance with federal, state and local requirements and meets all Joint Commission requirements. The PCS will model behaviors consistent with M Health Fairviews mission, vision and philosophy and effectively maintain the hospitals Standards of Care and Practice.
Assists in managing the day-to-day and shift-to-shift operations
Supervision of personnel in the department and projects as delegated.
Hiring, discipline and performance evaluations
Preference card assessment, review, and adjustment in conjunction with scheduling and team leads
Acts as a role model
Collaborates with Nursing and Provider leadership to implement and evaluate standards of practice.
Supports our patient experience initiatives
Assist with charge nurse development
Demonstrates skills/abilities in provision of patient care and directs patient care
Compass review and follow up with unit staff and other departments
Bachelors Degree in Nursing. If Bachelors is not in nursing, then must have a Masters degree in nursing
Three years nursing experience, at least one of which is in a formal or informal ( charge, lead, preceptor) leadership role.
