The Registered Nurse provides care to Veterans for acute and urgent medical problems and referrals to primary care for Veterans requesting primary care. Psychiatric emergencies are triaged and referred to psychiatric specialty as PES (Psychiatric Emergency Services). Duties may include, but are not limited to: Consistently performs comprehensive physical, psychological and social assessments. Detects early clinical changes in patient's condition. Effectively prioritizes actual and potential problem/needs. Develops realistic and measurable outcomes for identified patient needs and evaluates patient's progress toward outcomes. Revises the plan of care when appropriate. Is self-directed in providing and managing safe, therapeutic care for groups of patients. Effectively intervenes in critical patient care situations. Demonstrates knowledge and/or required safety skills in area of assignment and, when appropriate, in the following: emergency preparedness plan, hazardous materials, fire plan, equipment failure emergency plans, and utility outage response procedures for this area. Consistently documents and reports patient care that reflects the critical thinking process. Effectively guides all levels of nursing and ancillary staff assigned to the work unit. Work Schedule: ED operates 24 hours a day with multiple shifts. Availability is dependent on department need and TBD by Nurse Manager. Days (07:30am - 8:00 p.m.), Mid (11:30am -Midnight), Swing (3:30 p.m. -4:00 a.m.), Nights (7:30 p.m. -8:00a.m.) Financial Disclosure Report: Not required Pay: Competitive salary, regular salary increases. Paid Time Off: Annual leave at the rate of eight (8) hours per biweekly pay period; Sick leave at the rate of four (4) hours per biweekly pay period; 10 paid Federal holidays per year. Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years' vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA. Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement).
