Join a rapidly growing cardiology group focused on providing the highest quality care for patients, and an engaging, supportive workplace for its members. Work with a team that includes senior physician and sonographer mentorship as we continue to expand imaging services, including latest 3D and structural heart/interventional imaging, to the greater Western Washington region. This position is located in the Cardiology Department, Puget Sound Health Care System - Seattle, WA and will have duties at the Seattle VA and our clinical satellites to serve Veterans throughout VISN 20. The purpose of this position is to serve as an echocardiographer responsible to perform a full range of echocardiographic examinations/procedures and provide diagnostic data and assistance to physicians in care of the patients. Echocardiography sonographers independently perform transthoracic (TTE) studies and support transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) and stress testing (dobutamine and exercise), identify and record anomalies indicative of disease, injury or other medically significant conditions from 2D and 3D ultrasound imaging and simultaneous recordings of the Doppler evaluations. They incorporate causes and results of a variety of symptoms and conditions into a plan of ultrasonic diagnostic examination. They change and develop exam techniques to accommodate such variables as limited patient mobility, variation in physical condition or dimension of the patient, presence of prosthesis or foreign objects, and ultrasound response of different body parts. They produce diagnostic quality images and Doppler frequency recordings using M-mode, two-dimensional and Doppler ultrasound. The Echocardiography Technician has the intimate knowledge of cardiac and thoracic anatomy and physiology. They must demonstrate the ability to understand complex situations and to function in stressful situations, diagnose problems and work toward solutions. They are responsible for adhering to all departmental, service, hospital, agency, and national regulations and policies. Essential Functions and Responsibilities: 1. Ability to produce diagnostic quality 2D and 3D images and Doppler frequency shift recordings using M-mode, pulsed and continuous wave Doppler spectral display, and colorflow Doppler imaging. 2. Knowledge of normal echocardiography findings and deviations produced by a wide variety of cardiovascular diseases. 3. Ability to perform complex procedures such as cardiac studies of the four chambers of the heart using sector scanning techniques to detect stenotic and incompetent valves, chamber enlargement, and pericardial effusion and cardiovascular studies deriving pressure gradients across obstructed valves, etc. 4. Ability to perform complementary ultrasonic examinations (including noninvasive) transthoracic echocardiography, Bubble studies and contrast echocardiography (invasive). 5. Assists with dobutamine (DSE) and exercise treadmill (ESE) stress echocardiography. 6. Assists in performing trans-esophageal echocardiograms. 7. Ability to adapt transducer positioning, instrument controls, and examination techniques to the individual patient being studied and the problem being evaluated including recognizing pertinent abnormalities, documenting abnormal findings, and notification of ordering provider, or on-call MD, or Attending Cardiologist. 8. Ability to interact with patients explaining procedures and positioning and prepping the patient for procedure. 9. Prepares preliminary diagnostic evaluation for review by staff physicians and house-staff. 10. Ability to follow policy for sterilization process for TEE probes. 11. Is available for afterhours return to the hospital for emergency studies. 12. Ability to complete diagnostic studies ordered by and in collaboration with physician on all tours of duty with minimal or no direct supervision. 13. Ability to accept verbal orders to place the consult and record entries into the patient's CPRS medical record for the procedure performed. 14. Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with employees at varying grade levels. Work Schedule: Full-Time 40 hour per week, SEATTLE- TOD VARIES Financial Disclosure Report: Not required
