The VA St. Louis Health Care System (Diagnostic Imaging Service) is recruiting for a full-time Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist (CT/Special Procedures), GS-0647-9. Major duties include, but are not limited to: Schedules exams in a manner so as to optimize scanner times while maintaining flexibility for emergency cases. Confers with radiologist assigned to CT to determine requirement and protocol of exams. Determines technical factors, positioning, and appropriate protocol to produce and satisfy requirements of CT scanning. Performs neuroangiography including spine, head and neck studies utilizing highly sophisticated CT equipment and pressure injectors, patient monitors, etc. Completes complex post-processing on the Leonardo, an independent workstation. Performs angiography of the abdominal systems and extremities. Completes complex post-processing on independent workstations including bone removal, MIP spins, MPR spins, radial ranges, and parallel ranges, etc. Performs 3D post processing to include 3D spins, coronal, sagittal, radial ranges, parallel ranges, and disc space angles. Prepares contrast materials that are used in CT and other exams. Determines the proper dosage and type of oral contrast dependent on exam and radiologist preference. Determines the proper dosage and type of IV contrast to give dependent on patient size, exam protocol and radiologist preference. Performs basic scanner maintenance in compliance with brand specific specifications. Performs daily morning QA, daily evening shut down, and weekly "clean-up" of software. Maintains records and files of exams performed and radiation exposure . Insert IV catheters for administration of contrast material when necessary. Determines if pre-existing lines, ports, and Picc lines are working properly for the administration of contrast utilizing a pressure injector. Works with the radiologist as a member of the surgical/radiographic team for CT guided interventional radiologic procedures including biopsies, drainages and tube insertions. Duty Location: John Cochran Division. However, the duty location may be changed to one or multiple associated VAMC locations within the metropolitan St. Louis MO area based on the needs of the Medical Center. Work Schedule: Full-Time, Nights & Weekends: Fridays (3pm-7am), Saturdays & Sundays (7pm-7am). Compressed/Flexible: Not Authorized Virtual: This is not a virtual position.
