The Food Service Worker position is assigned to the Nutrition & Food Service at the San Francisco V Health Care System, San Francisco, CA. Incumbent performs duties that require proficiency in special procedures and a broad knowledge of service operations, such as food preparation, dish washing, dry and refrigerated storage, and food and beverage serving. Major duties include, but are not limited to: - Prepares individual and bulk nourishments and special formulas and supplemental feedings by following recipe/instructions, applying special sanitary techniques in preparing formulas and tube feedings, such as sterilizing equipment and sanitizing work areas. - Uses computer terminal to retrieve and process information for diet changes, inventory data, and to produce general information pertinent to Dietetic Service and Medical Service. - Selects and places food items on patient trays according to regular and modified diets. - Checks diet trays assembled for completeness, correct food temperature, and to verify that food items on the tray are appropriate for the prescribed diet for the patient. - Sets up assigned station on the tray line with correct supplies and food items, and breaks down and cleans the station after serving period. - Prepares uncooked food items such as sandwich spreads, salads, gelatins, and puddings. - Provides on-the-job training for lower graded employees. - Applies knowledge of general sanitation principles to safeguard food against spoilage and waste. - Applies knowledge and skill to apportion food items according to approved portion control practices using correct measuring utensil or scale regularly. Work Schedule: Full-time, Various Schedules relief position, will be a combination of Am and PM. Days to be determined based on the needs of the service.
