Applications are now being accepted for a Registered Nurse in Telenursing (Call Center). Telephone Triage or telephone nursing practice that focuses on assessment, prioritization, and referral to the appropriate level of care. Telephone Triage is a program that handles incoming calls ("nurse calls") from or on behalf of patients who have acute symptoms. This service is available 24/7.Telephone Triage is an encounter with a patient/caller in which a specially trained, experienced nurse, utilizing clinical judgment and the nursing process, is guided by medically approved decision support tools (protocols), to determine the urgency of the patient's problem, and to direct the patient to the appropriate level of care. This plan of care is developed in collaboration with the caller and includes patient education and/or advice as appropriate and necessary and follow-up as indicated to assure a safe outcome .Telephone Triage is an essential element of patient care delivery. It is designed primarily to facilitate access to care and to provide consultation and assistance to patients and their families regarding health information, home care measures, and navigation of the health care system. The primary purpose of Telephone Triage is to assure patient safety and improve quality of care. Program objectives include enhanced customer relations, improved resource utilization, enhanced patient empowerment and patient self-management, reduced organizational risk, and indirectly, cost containment. The Telephone Triage nurses manage calls and provide care and advice to callers. - They function independently as described below. All personnel will identify themselves by name and title (RN) to each caller, reserving the term "nurse" for individuals who are duly licensed RNs, in accordance with the nurse practice act of the state of Texas. - Telephone Triage RNs maintain accountability for patient assessment, application of protocols, and use of sound professional judgment in clinical decision making. - Telephone Triage is an interdependent nursing activity which is performed by a Registered Nurse in collaboration with a licensed physician, nurse practitioner and/or physician's assistant - The Telephone Triage nurse has an extensive knowledge base and demonstrates clinical competence. - The Telephone Triage nurse has flexibility to cover unit staffing needs 24/7. - Other duties as assigned.
