| This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application. Clinical and Administrative Responsibilities (70% time) Provides direct mental health and substance abuse services for Veterans and family members or significant others in support of the Veteran's treatment. Coordinate community-based services, including information and referral for additional services from other VA programs, other government programs and community agency programs. Identifies high-risk Veterans and provides case management services. Provides crisis intervention services, seeking to address the cause as well as the presenting complaint, coordinates family conferences and serves as liaison to family members. Makes routine visits to each Veteran in residence to assess his/her environment and provide on-going clinical services. Provides individual, group, and family therapy, utilizing specific techniques designed and empirically supported for this unique population. Provides consultation to interdisciplinary team members and is responsible for development and maintenance of professional standards of practice and education others about them. Explains Veteran's treatment and progress to third parties as appropriate and manages the quality control and evaluation of the professional services provided. Devises methods of obtaining data and evaluates data to determine the effectiveness of treatment and identifies consistent qualities of successful and non-successful treatment. Directs/coordinates clinical and psychosocial services and is accountable for the overall effectiveness of the services provided. Coordinates discharge treatment needs by working with programs within the VA system as well as community health care professionals, and housing resources. Provides consultation to health care personnel on the psychosocial components of the Veteran's situation. Develop an assessment of the Veteran in collaboration with the interdisciplinary treatment team, the Veteran, family members and significant others. Maintains treatment plans based on clinical assessment for each Veteran which are reviewed quarterly with updates as needed. Collaborates with other service providers in reassessing the Veteran's needs, is responsible for educating the Veteran and/or caregiver of the available services and assisting them in establishing the appropriate referrals based on the Veteran's preference. Assists in coordinating the psycho-educational program at FSP. This includes the following duties: 1. Provides consultation to staff, patients, and/or their families regarding the appropriate provision of services within the program. 2. Shares expertise and provides consultation to professional staff throughout the facility on issues relating to the program population. 3. Provides orientation, consultation, training to other clinical staff or students. 4. Obtains and/or participates in continuing education related to the program area. 5. Serves as a mentor to other mental health staff, particularly those at the entry level, and when appropriate, provides clinical oversight for unlicensed social workers and for social work associates. Works to insure seamless coordination with Addiction Consult Team with regard to referrals for treatment, coordination of program visits for Veterans referred for treatment, and updates about planned discharges from First Step Program. Maintains accurate statistics, including Northeast Program Evaluation Center (NEPEC) required data, prepares other reports, as required, within specified deadlines; submits data on patient contacts promptly and accurately. Assists with coordination of aftercare, provision of aftercare, including coordination and promotion of the aftercare component "Small Circle of Friends", as well as patient tracking for performance measures. Enriching Elements: Academic/Teaching/Training (15% time): The incumbent may provide training and supervision to psychology trainees at different levels as needed and appropriate for the setting. Supports the Psychology Service training program as needed by serving on committees, presenting at seminars and other activities. Provides training to program staff and other health care providers, as needed. Serves as a consultant to other medical center staff and trainees and assists in their formulation of the psychological characteristics and appropriate treatment expectations regarding their patients. Research/Program Evaluation (10% of time): Assists the Program Manager in the establishment of program monitors and outcome measurements within the First Step Program using Total Quality Improvement (TQI) processes. Assists the Program Manager in the planning and completion of program-related research, designed to provide information regarding program effectiveness and needs. Presents outcome data and research results at VA and regional or national scientific or professional meetings.
