The Physical Therapy Assistant position is located within the Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Service for Captain James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center (FHCC) and at 237 Branch clinic (as needed) in North Chicago, Illinois. The Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) renders treatment that promotes the prevention, remediation, and rehabilitation of acute and chronic physical and psychosocial dysfunction. Please Note: Coverage may also be needed at 237 Branch clinic. *Veterans preference applies to this announcement. Major duties include, but are not limited to: Reviews medical records and makes assessments to determine changes in status and medical stability. Implements and monitors therapeutic interventions identified in the plan of care and goals established by the physical therapist. Performs data collection and ongoing assessment techniques in order to perform specified aspects of patient evaluation and interventions. Provides patient education to patients and their caregivers. Performs specialized, diversified and advanced treatment procedures, including the full range of modalities and therapeutic procedures, determined by the needs of the patient. These interventions can include therapeutic exercise, traction, massage, ultrasound, electrotherapy, balance and gait training, motor learning and development. Interventions will often include the use of assistive and adaptive devices such as crutches, wheelchairs, orthotics, prosthetics and other mobility aides. Administers standardized tests and ongoing assessments and modifies or adapts specialized treatment approaches within the scope of the established treatment plan to reflect the changing needs of the patient. Prepares, supervises and evaluates the physical therapy assistant's clinical education program. Develops training plans, schedules rotation assignments, provided feedback on students' performance, and participates in clinical training education for students. Serves as a consultant for other physical therapy assistant and orients and trains new physical therapy assistants to the department and facility. Responsible for supervision and instruction of subordinate personnel. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 9:00 A.M. - 5:30 P.M.
