This is a Patient Services position located in NY Harbor VA Healthcare System with responsibility for performing invasive diagnostic and interventional cardiac procedures in the Cardiac Catheterization Lab. In addition to the core competencies defined at the GS -8 full performance level, positions at this grade maybe be Lead, Supervisory, or Non-Supervisory with specialized advanced knowledge. The Cardiac Cath Lab Technician executes position responsibilities the demonstrate leadership, experience ad creative approaches to managing complex systems, including the following, other duties may be: Ability to scrub , circulate, and monitor advanced procedures (including electrophysiological) to include intravascular ultrasound, RADI wire, filter wires, permanent pacemaker insertions and ICD insertions. Advanced knowledge of equipment, medications, and supplies used in the Cardiac Cath Lab and the ability to set up, calibrate, operate, and troubleshoot this equipment. Knowledge and understanding of waveforms from the great vessels and all chambers of the heart including the ability to recognize and distinguish normal from abnormal, artifact from abnormality, and forewarn the physician of an impending life-threatening situation. In addition they have knowledge and understanding of intracardiac electrogram waveforms from multiple channels including ability to recognize and understand normal from abnormal rhythms and discrimination of artifact. As well , the technician must be able to determine the sources of signal artifact and take corrective action. Knowledge of quality control and performance improvement indicators for the Cardiac Cath Lab and ability to prepare and a prior to the case beginning. analyze quality control of test results. The technician sets up and prepares the room for procedures by retrieving supplies for cases as well preparing all equipment and then conducting monitoring of equipment for quality assurance. Assist the cardiology manager with quality control and performance improvement activities. They work with physician to complete both diagnostic and interventional invasive cardiac procedures including: LHC, RHC, PCI, Stent placement , IABP, IVUS, OCT, pressure wires, pericardiocentesis, temporary pacemakers, and radial artery procedures, brachial procedures. Work Schedule: Monday to Friday 7:30am to 6:00pm (Compressed/Alternate schedule) Financial Disclosure Report: Not required Bargaining Unit: Yes
