The Registered Nurse position is located James A. Haley Veterans' Hospital in the GI Endoscopy unit. The Gastroenterology RN provides care for Veterans that require procedures such as: Colonoscopy, PEG Placement, EGD, ERCP, EMR, and EUS. Responsibilities include: pre- and post- procedure patient assessments, technical assistance with endoscopic procedures, education of patient/family, care of GI equipment, and appropriate documentation in the electronic record. The Registered Nurse's primary commitment is to the patient, whether an individual, family, group, or community (ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses) . This is all done through such services as case finding, health teaching, health counseling, provision of care supportive to or restorative of life and well-being, and executing medical regimens including administering medications and treatments prescribed by a licensed or otherwise legally authorized provider (Florida Board of Nursing). Duties include but are not limited to: Assess plans, implements and evaluates care based on age-specific components. Assume responsibility for the coordination of care focused on patient transition through the continuum of care, patient and family education, patient self-management after discharge, and supporting factors that impact customer satisfaction. Demonstrates proficiency in decision-making and using the nursing process for complex situations that effect performance outcomes at the point of care. Influences care outcomes by collaborating with member of the interdisciplinary team. Core elements of performance include knowledge and active participation in unit/program level quality improvement processes and initiatives as well as customer service programs. Demonstrates collaboration by using the group process to solve problems. Demonstrates critical thinking with efficiency and accuracy in assessing and managing situations.
