Under the supervision of the Patient Access Supervisor, is responsible for serving as a patient advocate and resource through the scheduling, pre-registration, registration, admitting/discharge and authorization process. Expectations of job include greeting and checking in families, as well as other customers in a professional manner while working to exceed customer service expectations, pre-registering current and prospective patients which includes: performing verification of demographic information, obtaining insurance information, verifying eligibility & benefits, identifying out of pocket liability, providing cost estimations as well as communicating out of pocket liabilities to patients while attempting to collect in advance or at time of service and/or arranging acceptable payment plans when necessary, making referrals to Patient Financial Counselor for self-pay or inability to pay.
REQUIREMENTS OF THE JOB:
1) High school diploma or equivalent required, 2) a minimum of three years of experience working in a clinic and/or hospital setting, preferably focused on registration, preferred, 3) knowledge of medical and insurance terminology, 4) must be detail oriented, 5) knowledge of Explanation of Benefits (EOB), preferred, 6) excellent verbal and written communication skills required, and 7) excellent telephone etiquette.
