Assist the Pharmacist in the performance of the pharmacy daily routine. This shall be carried out in accordance with all state and federal laws, Joint Commission Standards, and hospital or departmental policies and procedures.
SPECIFIC JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND COMPETENCIES:
Performs all tasks assigned to the work shift daily including, but not limited to, those listed on the technician daily task list.
Demonstrates dependability in attendance, punctuality and flexibility.
Demonstrates ability to meet the rigorous physical challenges of the job in such areas as vision, lifting and walking.
Accurately documents on record-keeping logs, forms, etc, according to policies and procedures.
Checks assigned areas for outdates. Pulls outdates from the Pharmacy shelves and storage areas, patient care areas and clinical departments in accordance with the established procedures and deadlines.
Demonstrates timeliness of deliveries of all new medications and IV admixtures.
Demonstrates timeliness in responding to needs of the patient.
Demonstrates accuracy and efficiency in checking in orders and restocking drugs on appropriate shelves and automated dispensing machines. Rotates stock in a timely manner.
If a South Carolina Certified Technician, checks the accuracy of the medications pulled by a different technician for refilling locations such as automated dispensing machines, stock of other patient-care areas etc.This does not include checking IV preparations, prepackaged, repackaged or compounded medications, or new medication orders.
Demonstrates understanding of ordering systems and inventory control, including filling requisitions from outside departments and clinics and obtaining medications from outside sources (other hospitals or pharmacies).
Adheres to re-packaging and pre-packaging functions of the Pharmacy according to policies and procedures and consistently performs these functions accurately.
Demonstrates ability to accurately operate the CII safe and to accurately complete the processes of narcotic dispensing, narcotic reconciliation, and report generation as well as an understanding of narcotic discrepancy processes.
Accurately refills/replaces emergency medications such as Crash Cart, Heart Cart, STEMIKits etc. in a timely manner.
Demonstrates knowledge and competence in all USP 797 policies and procedures for the IV clean room.
Demonstrates knowledge and proper utilization of hazardous waste containers.
Demonstrates knowledge and proper technique in IV chemotherapy/hazardous medication preparation.
Adheres to all policies and procedures associated with handling, preparing, and disposing of chemotherapy and other hazardous medications.
Enters pharmacy charges and credits in an accurate and efficient manner.
Anticipates problems or issues and demonstrates ability to solve problems by formulating recommendations for achieving improvement.
Participates on assigned teams and makes suggestions for process improvement and patient safety initiatives.
Satisfactorily meets initial and annual competencies for the Pharmacy as well as hospital-wide and department-specific competencies.
Demonstrates ability to effectively train new employees. Helps to ensure their success in the department.
Adheres to Infection Control and all hospital specific policies and procedures.
Qualifications: POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
High school graduate or equivalent, with clerical and science courses preferred.
Entry level position. Prior experience in hospital pharmacy preferred.
National and/or state certification required within 6 months of hiring date.
Registration with the SC State Board of Pharmacy required.
Completion of âSafe handling of hazardous drugsâ training book and exam, completion of competency assessment of chemotherapy hazards and preparation, and visual inspection and check off of hazardous medication preparation in Simplifi797.
